About this Event
Psychologist Viktor Frankl theorized that we are all driven by a pursuit to find meaning in our lives. That we are motivated by meaning and purpose, especially when life is hard. Through an in-depth look at Spider-Man comics, Josué Cardona illustrates the core principles of Frankl's Existential Analysis and Logotherapy, resulting in a greater understanding of Peter Parker's search for meaning and what motivates him.
This presentation will focus primarily on Spider-Man: Life Story (2019) and Ultimate Spider-Man (2024), but please join the discussion with your favorite Spider-Man stories. Participants will learn to harness the power of meaning in psychotherapy and how to use popular media as a catalyst to get the conversation started.
Learning Objectives:
- Analyze popular media for psychotherapy-relevant themes and topics.
- Identify Existential Analysis and Logotherapy themes found in the presented Spider-Man stories.
- Apply Existential Analysis in practice
- Discuss the topic of personal meaning through Spider-Man stories and other popular media.
