About this Presenter
Karl "Uncle Yo" Custer has presented at over 150 anime, comic book, video game, and geek culture conventions across the USA since 2008. He is an emcee, panelist and geek-specific stand-up comedian. After a career as a podcast producer, puppeteer, playwright, and audiobook V/O artist, he went back for his Masters in Social Work at Yeshiva's Wurzweiler School of Social Work.
Since procuring his LMSW in 2023, Custer now presents mental health lectures with a geeky spin, turning panels like "Magical Girl Bootcamp" into "Adolescent Trauma Recovery & Naruto." He is a certified TA-TTRPG GM through the Game2Grow nonprofit out of Seattle, and is presenting "Emotional Bleed and Aftercare in LARP" at this year's GenCon in Indianopolis, IN.
As a therapist, he specializes in treating trauma in the older adults and the LGBT+ community using DBT, EMDR, and geek-informed parts therapy. It is his pipedream to use LARP and TTRPG's in group work.
