The Hero’s Journey: Combing D&D and EMDR for individuals in trauma treatment
A presentation by Kate Shannon (Connections Creative Arts Therapy)
About this Event
D&D provides an incredible structure to successfully integrate EMDR and other trauma therapy approaches for clients. Learn about how Kate has adapted EMDR, creative arts therapy, parts work, and D&D to support clients who have experienced trauma or struggle with significant anxiety. Come away with some ideas on integrating resourcing skills through D&D, as well as incorporating playful EMDR processing within a D&D format.
Familiarity with EMDR may be helpful for attendees, although not required.
Learning Objectives:
1.Participants will learn examples of combining EMDR phase 1 and 2 within the framework of play-based therapy approaches (D&D)
2.Participants will observe themes of play to amplify and suggest metaphors for gradually approaching traumatic material through aesthetic distance and/or titration
3.Participants will observe examples of combining EMDR phase 3 and 4 within the framework of play-based therapy approaches (D&D)
