About this Event
An exploration of how the types of media such as anime, games, and T.V shows we interact with help to shape our perception of ourselves and the world around us. Combining the social work and counseling perspectives, we will examine how this interaction can be used in a therapeutic setting to explore patterns, cognitive biases, and beliefs about oneself. We will also explore how archetypes, narrative story lines, and the themes within these forms of media can help explore an individuals understanding of themself and others.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to analyze and discuss the role representation in various media has in developing an individual’s worldview and sense of identity.
- Participants will be able to recognize fandoms as parts of identity as well as a vehicle for identity exploration
- Participants will be able to asses the ways that character archetypes, narrative themes, and social dynamics presented in various fandoms relate to worldview and self-identity
- Goal: This workshop is designed to help you incorporate these ideas into your therapeutic approaches utilizing the social work and counseling perspectives
