About this Event

When the heroes are down, but not out; when the line between light and dark starts to blur; and when we find ourselves lost along our journey; who do we turn to, and who helps the helpers? In this presentation, speakers will discuss the pre-eminent health professionals portrayed in comics, movies, shows, and games. The audience will hear examples of real-life therapy techniques, medical interventions, and the true meaning of bedside manners. By reviewing examples of fictional helping professionals, participants can learn how to manage the dual responsibilities of helping others while facing their own stressors. Finally, at the end of this presentation, not only will the audience learn the true strength of asking for help but also how a healer can “heal thyself.”

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to discuss self-care routines for physical and mental health
  2. This presentation is designed to help you distinguish between burnout and vicarious trauma.
  3. Participants will be able to compare the roles of various health professionals.
  4. Attendees will recognize accurate and stigmatizing portrayals of healthcare professionals in media.
