Sci-fi, Superheroes, and Spirituality
A presentation by Matthew Morgan (He/Him) (Owner / Therapist / Chief Geek, Misfit Refuge Counseling)
About this Event
From the mystical ways of the force to space exorcisms in Babylon 5, sci-fi and fantasy has been deepened by incorporating theology and spirituality. These themes, when combined with the benefits of parasocial relationships, can deepen the benefits clients receive. In this session, participants will work in a religion-neutral, spiritually-affirming paradigm in order to open up discussions about spirituality and boost the effectiveness of their skills.
Learning Objectives:
1) Recognize different ways that spirituality is represented in sci-fi and fantasy
2) Develop 3 ways to incorporate spiritual talks into a therapeutic framework
3) Develop a framework that will encourage clients to incorporate spiritual parasocial relationships in order to improve therapeutic outcomes.
