"I Am a Revolutionary:" Utilizing Popular Narratives to Treat Intergenerational Trauma

The goal of this presentation is to describe the role of intergenerational trauma in the lives of African Americans in the United States. In addition to outlining operational definitions of “Urban Trauma,” “Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome,” and other aspects related to intergenerational trauma, the presenter will describe strategies for addressing intergenerational trauma in therapy, to primarily include utilizing narratives found in popular culture that provide insight into historical disenfranchisement.
