Adlerian Conceptualization using Dungeons and Dragons
A presentation by Erika Walker LSCSW, LCSW, LICSW, RPT-S (she/her/hers) and Jacob Dreiling APC, NCC, MS
About this Event
Adlerian Play Therapy has been cited as the most natural theoretical orientation for therapeutic Dungeons & Dragons. Your presenters will show how, using a tabletop role playing game, a clinician using Adlerian theory can help clients gain insight by living in the metaphor.
Learning Objectives
- We will analyze and access the typical structure of a prewritten TTRPG adventure (otherwise known as a module) and contrast that to a therapeutically driven TTRPG session.
- Compare different approaches to suit setting needs and therapeutic goals for each individual client and group.
- Prepare an outline for an adventure or setting that is mindfully crafted with negative space for the client to exercise a sense of autonomy within the session.
- Recognizing a player’s high and low Crucial C and tailoring play to intervene and boost.
