About this Presenter

Rick grew up in the 1970s and 80s, putting him front and center for the rise of numerous modern geek culture touchstones. He was 8 years old the summer Star Wars was released, he received an Atari 2600 for his 11th birthday and started playing the Dungeons & Dragons Expert set when he was 13. Add in a soundtrack by David Bowie, the Cure and Joy Division in small town Kentucky at the height of the 'Satanic' Moral Panic and you get a sense of where he got his geeky start.

As a psychologist and counselor in private practice, Rick focuses on helping 'nerds, punks, artists, creatives, people with ADHD/autism and self-avowed weirdos'. He is currently working with several graduate students toward developing various lines of research on geek therapy topics such as the therapeutic impact of RPGs, character sheets as projective measures and other geeky therapeutic interventions.
