About this Presenter
As the daughter of Mexican immigrant parents, Dr. Sanchez Arvizu experienced the lack of resources in rural central California since childhood. After studying abroad, traveling to different countries, taking courses on decolonizing mental health, and graduating with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, she created the nonprofit organization Psychology for Geeks. Dr. Sanchez Arvizu has over 7 years of experience as an all-inclusive mental health provider who is passionate about using geek culture to create a safe environment for everyone. She returned to her hometown to improve the mental health services available in the Central Valley, especially for Spanish-speaking families.
Dr. Sanchez Arvizu believes that if used carefully, the media and social media by extension, can be a great medium to help us with our mental health. Through Psychology for Geeks, she creates free online content and in-person parenting groups, presentations, and workshops to reduce the stigma placed on mental health and geek culture.
